Deciding on a Genre for my Film opening

To start my research and planning, I need to decide on my film genre.

Figuring out a Genre

When it comes to making a 2-minute opening sequence, the first thing we think about is, 'What Genre are we going to film?'

To answer that, I decided to focus on my favourite film genre: Romantic Tragedy and Time Travel. I have a huge interest in romantic tragedy and time travel because I have read many books in this Genre, and a few books and movies inspired me to come up with this genre; The Fault in Our Stars and Five Feet Apart, and About Time

I decided to incorporate the flashback scenes in my opening sequence as well. I decided to pick this genre because I want to bring out the emotion in people, like how I get emotional every time I read or watch these movies. I want people to relate to me.

However, I came up with a few struggles/questions to do this genre;

  • Would I have the proper equipment to film certain scenes in certain styles?
  • Would I be able to design an appropriate set?
  • Can I get makeup artists and costumes?
